The Campaign
This campaign is to help young author Christopher Neville get to Supernova, the biggest sf/fantasy convention in Australia in 2012. We are shooting for the venue on the Gold Coast, Queensland in April, but if we can’t make it there we will try for Brisbane in November.
Who is Christopher?
Christopher Neville is a young man with a big dream. He wants to make a success of his first novel, Dark World Prophecy, and write the two sequels he has planned. The novel is self published on Lulu.com and he needs funds to have a bunch of copies printed that he can take to Supanova. He also needs funds to be able to hire an artist’s table there. Christopher started writing this novel when he was 16, battling dyslexia and unsympathetic schooling to make his vision a reality.With help from his mum and his partner Regan to do the editing, he finally felt confident that his book could be published. Now he needs to get out there and find his fans, and bring his book to the attention of people who will enjoy it. It had been a long hard journey, to write the book, edit it, and self publish – but still the biggest hurdle he faces is letting people know it exists. Christopher dreams that his book and his superb imagination will help build a better future for his children. He’s a great bloke. He deserves a break.
What We Need and What You Get
We need about $2000 to get Christopher to Supernova, to print the books and hire an artist’s table. Of course if we raise more we can send him there in style and even maybe hire a booth – but Christopher isn’t greedy. We want everything for him, he just wants to be able to get there and meet and make friends and fans and get feedback for his book. If we don’t get all the money we need, we will use what money you can spare and get him there somehow, even if it’s only a ticket at the door so he can mingle. We just want this to happen for him and will be grateful for any funds that can be raised. All donations over $5 will be rewarded with a free e-copy of Dark World Prophecy, and we will try to think up some other perks as well.

THE BOY THAT COULDN’T READ WRITES A NOVEL
The encouragement and support of his family is the inspiration behind his first novel, Christopher Neville, 25, of Eagleby said. The boy who was shrugged off by teachers because he had difficulties in learning to read knew his family wouldn’t give up on him.
“I was working on a video game and showed the story to my mum,” he said. “She told me, you’ve got a book here.”
Christopher was just 14 when he started writing Dark World Prophecy, the first of three novels set in his own fantasy world. It wasn’t an easy journey. But with the help of his mother, sisters and partner Regan, Christopher finally reached the point where he could publish the book on www.lulu.com
Dark World Prophecy tells the story of Kyshin, a young man training to be a warrior in the country of Forton. But everything goes horribly wrong when he loses his best friend, and has to set out on a quest to save the gods of Dark World. The novel is full of twists and turns, deadly creatures, and amazing visual creations, such as the floating city of Chaster, and the enormous Peace Ship.
Although every detail is his own creation, Christopher calls Dark World Prophecy his family’s book.
“If it wasn’t for (sister) Kat saying she couldn’t wait to read it, I never would have written the last chapter – I would never have come back to it so many times if my family hadn’t kept pushing me to finish it so they could read it too. That’s why I call it the family’s book, but they all call it my book.”
It certainly is a family production – his sister Margarita Ragen of iImagination graphics studio designed the cover, and sister Kat Neville is working on concept art for the website.
And the literacy problem? Christopher found that writing the book, although laborious at first, gave him growing confidence with the written word. Although spelling and grammar is still a challenge, he has a ready made editor in his partner Regan Kingston, who did the final edit of the novel.
Christopher’s plans are now centred on getting word out about his book, and on starting work on the second novel in the series.
